The Cascades residential development consists of two neighborhoods, Potomac Lakes and Lowes Island. The development provides residents miles of walking and biking trails, three community centers with a fourth opening in 2000, three swimming pools, 12 tennis courts, 11 multipurpose courts, and 21 tot lots. Public soccer fields and softball/baseball fields are also within the community, and riverfront access to the Potomac River is available at Algonkian Regional Park.

The centerpiece of retail development in the community is the Cascades Town Center Marketplace shopping center. The Cascades Town Center is anchored by Giant Food grocery, which is surrounded by other large retailers such as Home Depot, Old Navy, Linen's and Things, Staples, Pier 1 Imports, The Sports Authority as well as a variety of other establishments including several restaurants and many smaller stores. Adjacent to the Marketplace is the 30,000 square-foot Eastern Loudoun Regional Library, which is the largest in the county, with full services and community meeting rooms. The newly constructed Senior Center is adjacent to the Library. Dulles Town Center Mall is very close to these communities with many stores to choose from including Dick’s Sports store and The Cheesecake Factory.

CountrySide offers residents three swimming pools, three tennis courts, a fitness parcourse, abundant walking trails, a nature preserve area and 10 tot lots. The CountrySide property lies in eastern Loudoun County, nine miles east of Leesburg, on the southern terraces of the Potomac River, about 12 miles above Great Falls. The area around CountrySide has a long and distinguished history, the outlines of which must be understood in order to appreciate the significance of the historic sites on the property.
